Bio
My interest in becoming a counselor began in college. Throughout my educational journey, I have found that making secure therapeutic connections with children and adolescents is my strength.
I majored in psychology, philosophy, and religion at the University of Tampa and quickly found that working with others was a natural calling. While still a student, I started a peer-counseling program and worked at a detox center in Durango, Colorado. It was at the detox center that I developed a desire to be a multicultural counselor working with Native Americans.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tampa honors program. I received my Master’s in Counseling from Adams State University. At Adams State, I was Director of Counseling and Chair of Psychology Philosophy and Religion for Colorado Border Line Academy, a local boarding school.
From 1998 to 2019 I worked in the community and private mental health systems with a variety of populations including families, couples, and children from 5 to 17 and young adults. In 2018 became Certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). In 2019 I became a Registered Play Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina. I have found that combining play therapy with other modalities provides a beautiful approach to working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral needs.
